A MIRACULOUS HEALING

The next morning I was awakened by a young, pretty nurse. She was calling, “Nick! Nick! Nick!” I looked over, and Nick hadn’t moved. He looked as dead as a person laid out in the morgue. I said, “Lord, what did You do? Lord, You were here last night. You said You would heal him. Now, You have taken him home. Why did You do it?”

The nurse continued saying, “Nick! Nick! Are you all right?”

Then she did something that scared both of us practically to death. She reached over and grabbed Nick by the arm and shook him. She shouted, “Nick! Are you all right?”

That little man leaped out of bed and hit the floor running, both hands high in the air, shouting, “Thanks be to God, I’m fine.” He danced around and around, shouting and speaking in tongues. We had a revival right there, and it was Nick’s. The nurse dashed out of the room and ran down the corridor, screaming, “He’s alive! He’s alive.”

She found the doctor and dragged him into the room. I knew she must have dragged him, because I could see, as they stood in the doorway, that she had a half-hammerlock on him and was so excited she didn’t really know what she was doing.

“Look! Look!” she shouted. “He’s alive!” Nick was running around and around, his hands in the air, speaking in a heavenly language.

The doctor looked dumbfounded. He was the one who had pronounced the death sentence on Nick the night before. He stood there for a minute, disbelieving what he was seeing, as Nick continued cavorting about the room and making those funny noises.

“You get back in that bed!” the doctor ordered when he found his voice. Nick shouted, “Thanks be to God. I’m healed! I’m fine!”

“Hey, you!” the doctor shouted, trying to make himself heard above the noise made by Nick hopping and jumping about and praising the Lord.

“Hey, you! Get back in that bed!”

“Oh, no! No! I’m just fine. Jesus heal me last a night. Frank sick. Take care of him. I wanna go home.”

I was crying and bawling and carrying on as Nick continued jumping and hopping about the room and speaking in tongues.

“Please get back in that bed?” the doctor pleaded.

“I get back in bed under one condition,” Nick replied. “I keep Frank company.”

The doctor agreed. Nick hopped into bed and began jumping up and down. The doctor approached him with the caution with which one would approach a rattlesnake. I didn’t blame him. The doctor said, “Please! I want to check your heart.” How do you listen to the heart of a man who is jumping and shouting and praising the Lord? He wanted to see if old Nick was still alive. Or was rigor mortis setting in?

The doctor said, “Please? Let me check something?” Nick became silent and sat quietly as the doctor reached up and slowly began to tear the bandages from Nick’s head. He pulled them gently until he had removed
